The conclusion is that electric hybrid based solutions and electrification of heavier transport vehicles are definitely technically possible. Electric hybrid based system solutions have the potential to offer improvements to heavier transport vehicles in many ways. There are already examples and experiences that point to this. Clear driving forces for an electrification are thus available. These driving forces interact with overall motives and arguments for road electrification.
However, there are many challenges and forces that counteract a rapid change. The cost of investing in new solutions needs to be weighed against the benefit. General system knowledge and experience has not yet been built up in the automotive industry to optimally apply electric hybrid technology. Therefore, the focus must be on applied research, development and testing. To find the right solutions, approaches to possible solutions need to be explored along the way, partly to build knowledge, but also to find the best solutions for each application.
